About Duncan Paterson
Since 2004 Duncan Paterson has worked in the outdoor industry as an independent instructor and for various companies. This backgound, alongside his personal climbing continues to grow my enthusiasm and love for the great outdoors and all it entails. Based in Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland; the Cairngorms can be seen in the distance whilst accessing some great local crags close to Aberdeen itself.
Duncan Paterson is currently qualified to the level of Mountaineering Instructor Award and Winter Mountain Leader. He works professionally on mountaineeirng activities in summer conditions in the UK and abroad as well as Winter walking, skills etc.
Being a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors ensures that his work is kept to a high professional standard. This is aided through mandatory continual professional development and a professional code of conduct.
Duncan Paterson has been heavily involved with outdoor learning, team and leadership facilitation, development and enhancement as well as delivery of activities for social programmes. Climbing Wall inspections, maintenance, training/assessments for staff, route setting and technical advice play a large part in Duncan’s work.
Duncan’s previous career history has included operation and managment of an extreme sports centre, Climbing Walls and Ropes Course amongst other varied work.
Whatever the work may be it is considered to be as important as any other and fulfilled with the upmost pride.

Imparting even one new piece of information or inspiring someone to try something out or push a little harder gives me a lot of satisfaction, especially when they go home happy if a little tired!”
